The American Express Company is founded in New York.
1902:
American Express comes to Belgium, organizing travel
and traveller's cheques for American visitors. The
first office is opened in Antwerp.
1923:
American Express opens an office in Brussels, with
dual fuctions of a travel agency and a bank.
1969:
A travel agency is opened in Evere.
1999, January:
Bank Brussel Lambert (BBL) and American Express combine
their collective corporate travel experience into
a new 50-50 joint venture: BBL Travel American Express
is born
2001, December:
BBL Bank decides to focus on its core business and
sells its 50% share in the joint venture to American
Express.
2003,
September:
BBL Travel American Express changes its name and visual
identity to American Express Business Travel, while
keeping the philosophy and the business travel know-how
of BBL Travel and American Express.
